Definition: smart TV app

An application in a smart TV that enables access to a third-party news, entertainment, arcade game or sports channel. For example, the Apple TV media hub enables users to download a huge variety of entertainment, news, sports and gaming apps, including Netflix.

In contrast, Comcast's Xfinity cable TV service already includes the Netflix app, which subscribers only need to sign into rather than specifically download. See smart TV, Apple TV and Xfinity.
