Definition: geolocation

(GEOgraphic LOCATION) The physical location of an object in the world, which may be described by degrees of longitude and latitude or by a more identifiable place such as city or residence. Being able to identify the location of a user via the geolocation methods in a smartphone (GPS, cellular, etc.) has enabled entirely new applications and businesses. Turn-by-turn directions to a destination are now commonplace, and people can summon an Uber or Lyft taxi on their smartphones. See navigation system and mobile positioning.

Spoof Your Location
The Web's HTML5 protocol supports geolocation, which allows a website to provide local news and weather. However, people can gain access to local events in other areas by altering their current location with a geolocation browser extension.
