Definition: auto scroll


(1) To scroll by dragging the mouse pointer beyond the edge of the current window or screen. Auto scroll is not a common feature.

(2) A built-in debugging feature in an application that users scroll much of the time. Depending on the language or framework used to code the program, scrolling may be crash-prone.




Auto Scroll this Encyclopedia
In the Windows version of this encyclopedia, a built-in auto scroll was added because there were scrolling bugs in the early versions. Pressing the Arrow keys manually until it crashed could take several minutes, and this did the grunt work. It also serves as a demo mode that runs continuously.
