Definition: two-way radio

A voice network that provides an always-on connection enabling the user to just "push the button and talk." Also called "dispatch radio," two-way radio has traditionally been used by police, fire, taxi and other mobile fleets. Motorola's iDEN system, which is implemented by various carriers around the world, integrates two-way radio capability with its cellphone systems. See SMR and iDEN.

Two-Way Radio vs. Walkie-Talkie
The primary difference between two-way radios and walkie-talkies is "stationary vs. mobile." Two-way radios are mounted in a vehicle or reside on a desktop, whereas walkie-talkies are portable like a smartphone. See push-to-talk and walkie-talkie.
