The flash memory found in an iPod, smartphone, tablet or camera and increasingly in laptop and desktop computers. The term "memory" plays a dual role in the computer, because the memory composed of RAM chips is the computer's temporary work area. Flash memory provides permanent storage.
For decades, the words "memory" and "disk" were more than adequate to describe these primary computer components; however, "RAM" and "storage" are less ambiguous alternatives today. See storage vs. memory
