Definition: Windows To Go

Starting with Windows 7 and ending with the May 2019 update of Windows 10, Windows To Go was a feature of Windows Enterprise versions for people bringing laptops to work. Windows To Go booted the PC into a company-configured Windows desktop from a USB or external storage drive. When first booted, it detected the required drivers for the machine's hardware and installed them. At the end of the day, the drive was removed, and the laptop reverted to its original state.

Only Certified USB Drives
Windows To Go disabled the storage drive in the employee's machine, and only the USB or external drive was used. USB drives required a minimum of 32GB of storage and Windows To Go certification. See U3, Windows 8 and BYOD.
