Definition: Telegram


(1) (telegram) A message transmitted via telegraph, printed on paper and delivered in person. Paid for by the word, telegrams were at their peak in the 1920s and 1930s. See telegraph.

(2) A popular text messaging and video calling app that was introduced in 2013. Running on all major platforms, Telegram offers video calls, image sharing and video selfies. With more than 500 million users as of 2021, Telegram was created by two Russians after the social network they founded was usurped by colleagues of Vladimir Putin.

Messages can be edited after being sent and also made to auto delete. All videos are encrypted, and encrypted messages are also an option.
