Definition: TV white spaces

Unused electromagnetic spectrum between VHF and UHF TV channels. Originally set up as protection bands to eliminate interference between analog channels, these frequencies from 54 to 862 MHz are being repurposed for wireless data services. Wireless microphones used in theaters and other venues have traditionally employed some of these frequencies. See 802.22 and 802.11af.
