A 2011 IEEE wireless standard for operation in the VHF and UHF TV white space bands from 54 to 862 MHz. Employing cognitive radio techniques, 802.22 is a "wireless regional area network" (WRAN) and is dubbed "Super Wi-Fi."
Similar to 802.11af
The IEEE 802.11af Wi-Fi standard also uses the TV white spaces but 802.22 offers greater distances and higher data rates (up to 100 km and 50+ Mbps compared to 1 km and 25+ Mbps). Both technologies penetrate walls better than regular Wi-Fi due to their lower frequencies. See
