Definition: Snap Camera

An earlier camera application from the maker of Snapchat for Windows and Mac that changed a person's face into an animal or cartoon figure while retaining the normal background. Each transformation was accomplished through a custom "Lens," which could alter only the face to provide an augmented reality (AR), or it can change the entire scene. Snap Camera could be used with any video application that enabled changing cameras; for example, Zoom enables easy camera switching. See Snapchat and augmented reality.

Available for Four Years
Debuting in late 2018, the software was dropped in early 2023, much to the chagrin of thousands of users who loved the program because it was so much fun to use.

Snap Camera App
With nearly a thousand Lenses in the original download, Snap Camera could take a photo or a video.

A Zoom Snap Camera Session
After installing Snap Camera and switching cameras in the Zoom app, users could have fun. This is Alan Freedman, author of this encyclopedia. As Freedman spoke, the mouth of the lizard moved in tandem. See Zoom videoconferencing.
