Definition: Robotaxi

Tesla's self-driving taxi network. Introduced in 2024, the Robotaxi service features the Cybercab two-passenger taxi and the Robovan bus. There are no steering wheels. Taxi trials began in Austin, Texas in 2025 using self-driving Tesla Model Y vehicles. Cybercab trials began a year later.

Dual Service
The Cybercab is also available for dual purpose, whereby people can use their Cybercabs as private vehicles that also earn money. For example, after the owner drives to work, the Cybercab can be switched to "taxi service" and pick up passengers until it returns at the end of the day. Estimates are that owners can make from $20,000 to $50,000 a year, depending on the population of the area. See Tesla and transportation network company.
