Definition: Snapdragon X

An SOC (system-on-chip) family for Windows laptop computers from Qualcomm. Launched in 2024, the X family is aimed at AI applications and includes Qualcomm's Oryon CPU and Hexagon neural processing unit (NPU). Qualcomm claims 60% faster performance using 65% less power than comparable Intel-based CPUs. Graphics performance is similar to Apple's M2 chip. Snapdragon X GPUs use less power than previous Snapdragon GPUs.

X Elite and X Plus
The Snapdragon X Elite has 12 CPU cores and comes in three models, each offering varying graphics and AI performance. The X Plus (X+) is a bit slower with 10 processing cores. See Snapdragon and Oryon CPU.

X2 Elite Extreme
Introduced in 2025 for 2026 delivery, three X2 models have 18 processing cores and new generations of Qualcomm's Adreno GPU and Hexagon NPU. Two cores can be boosted to 5 GHz, pretty much top speed in today's CPUs. The X2 chip is in the center of this mockup, which Qualcomm created for marketing purposes to show a potential circuit board for a mini PC or laptop.
