Definition: Optimus

Tesla's general-purpose robot. In 2022, Optimus was introduced at Tesla's AI Day, and videos showing several of this "friendly" robot's capabilities were released a year later. Optimus is expected to be used in manufacturing, hazardous work, agriculture, elderly care, running errands and healthcare.

Elon Musk said that by the late 2020s, Optimus will be performing more and better surgeries than all the human surgeons on earth. He also said that one will eventually be sent to Mars in a SpaceX rocket. Stay tuned! See robot, social robot and Tesla.

The Tesla Robot

Designed to eliminate dangerous, repetitive and boring tasks, Optimus is 5'8" tall and weighs 125 pounds. Expected to retail for $30,000, it can walk at a maximum of 5 MPH, carry 45 pounds and dead lift 150. (Image courtesy of Tesla Motors.)
