Definition: OnePlus

A China-based manufacturer of Android smartphones. Introduced in 2014, OnePlus models are unlocked Android smartphones with quad-core Snapdragon CPUs and up to 8GB RAM that initially ran the Cyanogen version of Android (Cyanogen was later replaced with the company's own Android-based OxygenOS). See CyanogenMod.

The OnePlus One, the company's first phone, was widely praised for its quality and $349 price with 64GB of storage, less than half the cost of top phones in 2014. Devices are sold directly from the company, and although subsequent models have substantially risen in price, they are still below flagship phones from Samsung and Apple.

OnePlus 10T
OnePlus smartphones have been widely praised as less expensive alternatives to iPhones and Galaxy S models.

OnePlus 11 and Nord (2023)
Starting at a lower price than the 10 Pro, the OnePlus 11 has improved camera and battery, although the submerged-in-water rating is only IP64 rather than IP68. Nord models continue to be the mid-range offerings from the company but offer greater brightness than the OnePlus 11.

OnePlus 10, 10 Pro and 10T (2022)
Although dimensions and weight are almost identical to OnePlus 9 models, OnePlus 10s offer a larger battery and improvements in the camera. For example, the Dual Color Calibration is designed to deliver more natural colors. Gaming performance is also improved, and the selfie camera resolution is doubled.

OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro (2021)
Similar to OnePlus 8, the phone's frame is plastic rather than metal. OnePlus 9 cameras were improved due to partnering with Hasselblad; however, telephoto zooming is digital only. Charging is faster, and the Pro model dynamically changes the refresh rate up to 120 Hz. Hypertouch reduces touchscreen latency for gamers. The lower frequency bands of 5G are supported but not millimeter bands.

OnePlus8, 8 Pro, Nord and 8T (2020)
Major features are a bigger battery, wider camera angle, slightly curved screen and 5G capability for most carriers. The 8 Pro screen is 6.78". The entry-level 6.44" OnePlus Nord has a slower CPU and narrower wide angle camera. The 8T has four rear cameras compared to three on the OnePlus 8, and its 120Hz display and telephoto lens are like the 8 Pro.

OnePlus 7T, 7 Pro and 7T Pro (2019)
All 7 series screens are slightly larger than the OnePlus 6 models and offer triple rear cameras. The 7T has a 6.5" screen while the 7 Pro and 7T Pro are slightly larger at 6.67". All models offer 256GB of storage.

OnePlus 6 and 6T (2018)
The highlights of the OnePlus 6 are a large 6.28" screen, all-glass case and from 64GB to 256GB of storage, a large capacity for a smartphone. The 6T, which is slightly larger and heavier, added more pixels and moved the fingerprint sensor from the back to the screen itself. The battery is 400mAh larger, and the 3.5mm headphone jack was eliminated. Storage starts at 128GB with the 6T.

OnePlus 5 and 5T (2017) - (There was no 4 model.)
The OnePlus 5 debuted with dual cameras, 8x zoom and up to 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. Night Mode adjusts the screen when viewing in darkness, and Reading Mode switches to monochrome while adjusting the white balance to the ambient light. The 5T has a larger 6" screen and facial recognition.

OnePlus 3 and 3T (2016)
The OnePlus 3 was slightly thinner and lighter and offered fast charging (Dash Charge), NFC and 4K video. The 3T model offered a faster CPU and larger battery, and the 3T's front camera doubled the pixels from 8 to 16MP. See NFC and 4K resolution.

OnePlus 2 and X (2015)
A slightly thicker OnePlus 2 added a fingerprint scanner, USB Type C port and dual SIM capability. The entry-level OnePlus X was introduced with a 5" screen and fewer features.
