Definition: OnePlus

A China-based manufacturer of Android smartphones. Introduced in 2014, OnePlus models are unlocked Android smartphones with quad-core Snapdragon CPUs and up to 8GB RAM that initially ran the Cyanogen version of Android (Cyanogen was later replaced with the company's own Android-based OxygenOS). The original OnePlus One was widely praised for its quality and $349 price with 64GB of storage, less than half the cost of top phones at the time. Devices are sold directly from the company; however, subsequent models have substantially risen in price with the top model at $1,000 in 2026.

Unfortunately, by the end of 2025, OnePlus market share dropped to less than three percent due to intense competition. OnePlus and Oppo, both BBK Electronics companies, merged operations in 2021, and integrating phone software had issues. There were also hardware problems. OnePlus is expected to leave the Western market and concentrate on India and China.

OnePlus smartphones have been widely praised as less expensive alternatives to Apple and Samsung models.
