Definition: MetaDirectory


(1) A data warehousing tool from Information Builders that captures and associates metadata from the company's different applications. Formerly SmartBase, it was renamed MetaDirectory in 1998. See SmartMart and Information Builders.

(2) (metadirectory) A directory that contains information about other directories. It functions as a master directory gleaning information from all the other directories. See DirXML.
