Definition: Adobe Illustrator

A full-featured drawing program for Windows and Mac from Adobe. Originally developed for the Mac in 1987 and Windows in 1989, Illustrator has been the most widely used vector graphics editor. Today, it is part of Adobe's application suite (see Adobe Creative Suite).

For decades, Illustrator and Photoshop have been Adobe's major image creation and editing products. While Illustrator handles vector graphics images, Photoshop is used to manipulate bitmapped images. See Photoshop and drawing program.
