Definition: I2P

(1) See I2P2.

(2) (Invisible Internet Project) A proxy network that hides the user's identity. Introduced in 2003, I2P is employed for the same purposes as Tor and onion routing but is not as widely used. Unlike Tor, I2P selects its routers by ranking performance. Also called "garlic routing," I2P uses a different path for the return route, doubling the number of routers committed to a single query or transaction. I2P tunnels are short lived, unlike Tor circuits that typically last a long time. I2P is written in Java, rather than C. See Tor.
