Definition: F-150 Lightning

Ford Motor Company's first electric pickup. The Lightning is a Ford F-150 pickup truck with an electric motor instead of a gas engine. Depending on battery choice, the vehicle's range is from 230 to 300 miles, and towing capacity is 10,000 pounds. A unique feature in a pickup truck, 14.1 cubic feet of storage is under the hood where the gas engine used to be. Of course, in time, this will no longer be a rarity.

Extremely Popular
First available in 2022, production was so limited that dealers were routinely asking a ton of extra money to sell their only demo model. The sticker price on the F-150 below was approximately $47,000, but the price to buy it was an additional $50,000. See electric vehicle.

Only the Name Plate
The only exterior difference between an F-150 gas model and its electric equivalent is the name plate. Lightning pickups are not expected to become widely available until 2024 or thereafter. Of course, every vehicle owner would love this fuel economy, especially in a truck.
