Definition: Dogecoin

A cryptocurrency that was named after the Doge Internet meme of a Japanese Shiba Inu dog, and the coin's logo is the face of the Shiba Inu. Pronounced "doszh-coin," Dogecoins come into existence each year unlike the 21 million maximum cap for Bitcoin. Launched in 2013, by 2019, one Dogecoin was valued at less than one cent. In April 2021, after being listed on Coinbase, Dogecoin topped 40 cents only to tumble thereafter. Like Bitcoin, Dogecoins are mined. See cryptocurrency and memecoin.
