Definition: DirecPC

A pioneering service from Hughes Network Systems that offered consumers access to the Internet via satellite. DirecPC required installation of a dish antenna cabled to an expansion card plugged into the PC. The uplink was made via the customer's own ISP, but the downlink was from the satellite to the dish at up to 400 Kbps.

DirecPC evolved into the DIRECWAY brand, which later became the HughesNet Gen4 service, providing direct access to the satellite at much higher data rates both up and down. See HughesNet.
