Definition: Coinbase

(2) The largest cryptocurrency exchange located in the U.S. Introduced in 2012, Coinbase became a public company in 2021, which was the first IPO for a crypto exchange. With over 90 million customers in more than a hundred countries, Coinbase enables access to Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin and many more digital currencies. Coinbase Wallet
Coinbase is a centralized crypto exchange that maintains the user's assets similar to a bank savings account. However, the company also has a self-custody wallet that allows users to access other exchanges and take advantage of the world of decentralized finance (see Coinbase Wallet).

Coinbase One
An optional subscription service, Coinbase One was launched in beta at the end of 2021. Coinbase One provides $1 million in account protection, 24/7 phone support and zero trading fees.

Coinbase Pro and Coinbase Prime
Coinbase Pro was designed for professional traders and provides charting tools similar to a stock trading platform. Originally debuting as the Global Digital Asset Exchange (GDAX) in 2016, GDAX was later renamed Coinbase Pro. Coinbase Prime is for institutions, trusts and high net worth individuals.

Coinbase Vault
An optional security measure that Coinbase users can select. Withdrawals take longer however (see Coinbase Vault).
