Metropolis - 1927
Set in a futuristic dystopia, this German silent film based on a 1925 novel is considered by many to be the pioneer of sci-fi.

A Space Odyssey - 1968
Stanley Kubrick's film is a classic about the HAL 9000 computer that takes over the spaceship. The computer's name were the three letters before IBM, which was the major computer vendor at that time.

Blade Runner - 1982
Harrison Ford stars in a dystopian Los Angeles in 2019 where biologically engineered humans known as "replicants" work in space colonies. Different versions have been made over the years.

The Terminator - 1984
Arnold Schwarzenegger is a cybernetic assassin sent from the future (1929) to kill a woman whose future son will save mankind.

The Matrix - 1999
Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne star in a dystopian future where everyone is trapped inside the Matrix.

A. I. Artificial Intelligence - 2001
In the 22nd century, global warming caused the human population to decline, and humanoid robots handle many roles in society.

I, Robot - 2004

Joaquin Phoenix is a lonely Los Angeles man involved with an AI operating system played by Scarlett Johansson.

Ex Machina - 2014
A programmer administers the Turing Test to a female robot named Ava. The film was noted for its visual effects.
