Definition: ultra-thin client

A type of thin client that permanently contains only system software for booting the operating system from the network. Applications come from the server as well, and there is no local storage. Also called a "zero client," the ultra-thin client is reminiscent of the Java-centric network computer in the 1990s that never took off. See thin client.
