Definition: wrist rest

A platform used to raise the wrist for typing. The correct height for a wrist rest is about an inch higher than the bottom Z,X,C row; however, very few wrist rests are high enough.

Keyboard Legs Make It Worse
Keyboards generally have legs that can be pulled down to tilt the keyboard up in the back and down in front. With or without a wrist rest, this common keyboard tilt causes the wrist to flex upwards when typing. It is, unfortunately, the exact opposite keyboard slant for proper wrist health. See wrist support and wrist strap.

The Right Height
Wrist rests such as this raise the wrists to a level that helps prevent carpal tunnel syndrome. Arms and wrists should be level, and fingers should be pointing down.
