Definition: wETH

(Wrapped ETH) An Ethereum token that conforms to the ERC-20 token standard, which is the format of countless other cryptocurrencies on the Ethereum blockchain. Ethereum's native ETH crypto existed before the Ethereum community adopted ERC-20, which stands for "Ethereum RFC-20." Users can "wrap" their ETH into wETH and trade their wETH directly with other ERC-20 tokens on multiple exchanges. When users want to convert back to native ETH, they "unwrap" their wETH.

ERC-20 Compliant in the Future
According to the weth.io website, Ethereum's native ETH will eventually become ERC-20 compliant. See Ethereum token and crypto glossary.
