Definition: virtual folder


(1) An index in the computer that points to selected files and folders within the machine. See Recents folder and Windows Libraries.

(2) An index in the computer that points to files and folders on a remote server. Files are viewed with a file manager such as Explorer or Finder as if they were stored in the same computer.




A Virtual Folder on the Mac
This virtual folder on a Mac desktop is actually a folder named "w" in a Windows machine on the same local network. Any compatible application in the Mac can update content in the w folder, and the updated file will be saved in the Windows machine.
