Definition: virtual docking

The automatic recognition between two devices when placed in close proximity. For example, if a digital camera and computer support the same virtual docking method, as soon as the camera is brought within a few feet of the computer, a connection is made. Then, either the camera begins uploading pictures automatically, or a dialog appears on the PC allowing the user some customization, such as the selection of a destination folder and file name prefix.
