(
VIDeo pod
CAST) A video designed for viewing at any time. YouTube and Spotify are commonly used to distribute vidcasts; however, the original method was the RSS syndication format (see
RSS). Widely employed to disseminate information to workers in different time zones, a vidcast is not interactive like Zoom and other videoconferencing networks.
A vidcast can be just one person talking or a group discussing a subject along with charts and other visuals. Also called a "vcast," "vodcast" and "videocast," a vidcast is the video counterpart of a podcast.
A Podcast With Video
Many podcasts have evolved into video podcasts in order to monetize the content or to gain a larger audience. With a smartphone in everyone's hands today, it is easier to watch a video than ever before, and vidcasts are often more entertaining than audio-only podcasts. To gain the widest audience, content may be made available as both a podcast and a vidcast. See
