Definition: vertical tabs

The rendering of Web browser tabs in a top-to-bottom columnar format. The traditional tabs, which function as temporary bookmarks to open website pages, are spread horizontally across the top of the browser. However, for users who keep many pages open, there is limited room horizontally and a vertical layout is preferred. Extensions to popular browsers add the vertical tab feature. See tabbed browsing and browser extension.

Built Into Vivaldi
Perhaps the most customizable Web browser, Vivaldi supports vertical tabs natively and enables an enormous number of pages to be visible. This example shows plenty of room for more tabs. Permanent bookmarks are listed in the left panel, which can also be changed to display downloads, history and other data. See Vivaldi browser.
