Definition: USB 3.1

The latest generation of the USB hardware interface, which doubled the transfer rate from 4.8 to 9.6 Gbps. Also called "SuperSpeed+", new cables and connectors must be used (see below). USB 3.1 also increased the power channel to 100 watts, enabling laptops to be charged via USB, not just mobile devices. See USB Type C, USB 3.0 and USB.
