Definition: deskilling


The declining requirement for professional and technical skills due to ever-increasing technology. Also spelled "de-skilling" and pronounced "dee-skilling," as more advanced technologies take the place of human labor, fewer people are needed. Over time, the general public loses skills that were previously required. See AI anxiety.

Upskilling
The opposite of deskilling, upskilling requires new skills to take advantage of the latest technologies such as robotics and AI applications. With regard to AI, there is significantly more deskilling than upskilling. See AI in a nutshell.
