Redirected from: uncle block

Definition: orphan block

In a blockchain, it is not uncommon for more than one block to be submitted for inclusion on the chain at the same time. In Bitcoin, the additional blocks are called "orphans." In Ethereum, they were initially called "uncle blocks" and subsequently "ommer blocks" to avoid gender-specific terminology. See crypto block reward.
