Definition: tweet

Used both as noun and verb, a tweet was a posting on Twitter as well as the act of posting to Twitter. For example, "I liked her tweet" and "I like to tweet." Today, a tweet is officially a "post" or "X post" after Twitter was renamed "X" in 2023. See Twitter and subtweet.

Any and All Social Media
Tweets were so ubiquitous that even after Twitter became X, people still use the tweet term instead of post. In fact, people use tweet for their postings on any and all social media networks.

Fleets - Come and Gone
While tweets remained in the recipient's device, "fleets" were "fleeting tweets" that automatically disappeared after 24 hours. In 2021, the fleet option was shut down. See retweet, tweetstorm and tweeter.
