Definition: trash can


In the Mac, a simulated waste basket that is used to delete files and folders. The trash can keeps the files intact in case the user wants to restore them but can be "emptied" to save disk space. The Windows equivalent is the recycle bin.

Drag and Drop
The icon of a file or folder is dragged to the trash can and released. In the Mac, the trash can is also used to eject removable media by dragging disk icons onto it. See recycle bin and Trashcan Mac Pro.
