Definition: trading symbol

An upper-cased alphabetic abbreviation of a security or cryptocurrency. Also called a "ticker symbol." For example, AAPL is the stock symbol for Apple, Inc., and BTC is the crypto symbol for Bitcoin. See crypto glossary and crypto symbol.
