Definition: thermal camera


A camera that detects heat. Thermal cameras are used to find components, wires and connectors that are overheating in all variety of electrical and electronic devices. Thermal cameras are also known to scrape PIN codes. When a person presses a key, a thermal residue is present for a short while, and a thermal camera can be used to extract the PIN code within a few seconds thereafter. See thermal runaway.
