Definition: soft robot

A robot that employs the attributes of living beings rather than an android enclosed in metal. Soft robots do not necessarily look like real creatures, although some may. However, they emulate the softness of human and animal skin along with the flexibility of animal limbs. More compliant materials such as rubber and plastics are used to cover the extremities. See robot.
