Definition: smart electrical panel

A programmable home or small office electrical panel that is controlled by a smartphone app. The panel monitors rooms, lights, heaters and other devices, which can be turned off remotely. During a power outage, the panel, which is typically connected to a backup battery, can direct power to only selected rooms and appliances. The amount of available backup power can be continuously monitored.

The SPAN App
SPAN makes smart electrical panels, and this is the control software. SPAN Drive (top selection) is a Level 2 home EV charging station connected to the SPAN panel. See EV charging. (Image courtesy of SPAN.io, Inc.)
