(1) A file that augments another file. Using the same file name but with a different extension, sidecar files typically contain metadata or other auxiliary settings.

(2) (Sidecar) A macOS feature starting with Catalina Version 10.15. Sidecar enables an iPad to function as a mirror to the primary display or as a second screen.
