Definition: collaborative robotics

Robots that work side by side with humans. Also called "cobots," collaborative robots are typically available as lightweight robotic arms designed with specific limitations. For example, "power and force limiting" ensures that a cobot making contact with a person is not harmful. For more dangerous operations, "speed and separation monitoring" makes sure that the robot is at a safe distance from a human worker. See social robot and robotics.
