Definition: quantum coherence


The capability of qubits in a quantum computer to maintain their quantum mechanical state (their superposition state) over time. Otherwise, errors are generated. Maintaining this coherent state and not generate errors is very difficult due to the combination of quantum computer architecture and interference from the outside world. Eliminating and correcting these errors has been a major challenge in the 2020s, and each generation of quantum computers is designed to address this issue more effectively. See Google Willow.

Each Qubit Enhances the Computer's Power
In a quantum computer, the number of qubits is a measure of its processing power. In contrast, a classical computer is also defined in large part by the number of bits in its memory and storage capacity.
