Definition: proof-of-authority algorithm

A private blockchain consensus method that relies on the reputation of the "validator" nodes. Proof-of-authority (PoA) differs from proof-of-stake (PoS), which is based on how much crypto is staked. In addition and most significantly, unlike a decentralized blockchain, there is a centralized authority in a proof-of-authority network. See consensus mechanism.
