A variant of the "brute force attack" for gaining illegal entry to a server. Instead of trying thousands of passwords against a user account, password spraying uses one password against many accounts before trying another password. This circumvents the common security measure whereby the account is locked out for a period of time after a certain number of password attempts fail. See
