An electronic system in a vehicle or mobile device that provides a real-time map of the current location and turn-by-turn directions to a requested destination. A navigation system comprises the software and satellite antenna. Often called a "GPS," a navigation system (nav) receives signals from the GPS satellite system (see
GPS). See

The Next Turn
When in destination mode, every nav highlights the next turn. In this Hyundai example, the next turn in 1.3 miles is the Coastal Highway in the state of Delaware (upper right).
A Cross-Street Feature
Street signs can be hard to see under normal conditions and impossible at night. Garmin navigation apps constantly show the street ahead in a large font that is easy to read. Garmin is the only navigation app that displays this invaluable information "all the time," unless in destination mode where the next turn is displayed. See
navigation app.
