Definition: multimodal

Two or more modes. Multimodal may refer to any function in which two or more methods are used. Multimodal text is the written word plus images. Multimodal teaching uses books, videos and instructor-led presentations.

Multimodal AI models accept two or more kinds of input for training; for example, text and images. This enables them to answer a greater variety of questions (see multimodal AI). Contrast with "unimodal," which means only one method or mode. See mode.
