Definition: multicloud

The use of two or more cloud computing providers. Multicloud deployment may be used for disaster recovery rather than rely entirely on one provider. It is used to obtain best of breed; for example, one cloud vendor may have the best software as a service (SaaS) offering, while another has the better platform as a service (PaaS). Multicloud is also used to disperse content geographically for the fastest response times in each region. See cloud computing.

Multicloud vs. Hybrid Cloud
Multicloud refers to using multiple cloud vendors, each of which may or may not offer the same services. Hybrid clouds divide an organization's processing requirements between in-house and external facilities. See hybrid cloud.
