Definition: mobile Internet


Accessing the Internet from a smartphone via a Wi-Fi or cellular connection. In many parts of the world, the phone has become the only Internet device. As of 2025, mobile Internet is used by approximately four and a half billion people worldwide with the smallest percentage in Sub-Saharan Africa. About 350 million live in remote areas without mobile coverage. Of the approximate 335 million people in the U.S., nearly 90% access the Internet by phone. See mobile Web and cellular hotspot.
