A clip-on camera that turns an iPhone or Android smartphone into a higher-quality digital camera. Introduced in 2013 by Sony with its QX10 and QX100 models, the camera sensor is contained within the lens and communicates to the smartphone via Wi-Fi for viewing, snapping and storing the images in the camera roll. Images are also stored on the microSD card inserted into the lens.
Looking like a lens with a clip, the Sony QX10 has a 10x optical zoom and 18 MP sensor (20 MP in the QX100). To take pictures, Sony's camera app must be downloaded and installed. (Image courtesy of All Things Digital.) For the complete All Things Digital article, visit http://dthin.gs/1gx3OQX.
