Definition: lens camera

A clip-on camera that turns an iPhone or Android smartphone into a higher-quality digital camera. Introduced in 2013 by Sony with its QX10 and QX100 models, the camera sensor is contained within the lens and communicates to the smartphone via Wi-Fi for viewing, snapping and storing the images in the camera roll. Images are also stored on the microSD card inserted into the lens.
