Definition: laptop farm

A collection of laptops placed in a home or office that is used to fake their physical location. A laptop farm is operated from another country, but all data sent to and from the laptops shows the Internet address of the laptop's location.

For example, in 2020, after stealing the identities of American workers, IT professionals in North Korea obtained jobs as remote workers with hundreds of U.S. companies. All the work was done in American-based laptop farms, and sensitive data along with the salaries paid to the remote workers were passed on to North Korea. See scam.
